Department of Health and Police officers arrested a 52-year-old woman for the illegal sale of Part I poisons and unregistered drugs during a raid yesterday on a Yau Ma Tei hawker stall.
The shop was selling virility products including an oral product which contains sildenafil, and two spray products, Lido and Procomil, which contain lignocaine.
Sildenafil is a prescription drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and should be supplied only at pharmacies under a pharmacist’s supervision upon a doctor's prescription. Its side effects include low blood pressure, headache, vomiting, dizziness and blurred vision.
Sildenafil's improper use can pose serious health risks, especially for patients with heart problems.
Lignocaine is a local anaesthetic for the relief of pain or to desensitise skin before minor operations. Common side effects include a hypersensitive reaction.
The department urges people not to buy or use unregistered pharmaceutical products, as the Pharmacy & Poisons Board has not evaluated them, and their safety, quality and efficacy may not be guaranteed.
