CE calls for vigilance against bird flu
January 28, 2014
Chief Executive CY Leung calls on the community to pay attention to personal hygiene and avoid contact with live poultry, after a batch of imported live chickens tested positive for the avian flu virus.
Speaking to reporters today, Mr Leung said measures have been put in place to tackle the situation, including a 21-day suspension of the live chicken supply.
He urges people to heed the Government’s advice and follow its policy.
In the long run, he said the community may need to consider whether to maintain a live chicken supply, he added.
He said the Government is willing to study the possibility of separating local chickens from those imported from the Mainland, but adequate space and facilities are needed to test them before distribution.
