Suspected encephalitis case probed

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a suspected case of Japanese encephalitis affecting a 13-year-old boy.He fell ill on July 15 and was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on July 19.
He was transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit on July 20 and is in a serious condition.
He tested negative for antibodies against the disease, and further specimens will be taken for laboratory testing.
The boy lives in Tin Shui Wai and has no recent travel history. His home contacts are normal.
