Woman ill with drug-resistant infection
June 03, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of invasive community-associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, involving a 39-year-old woman.
She fell ill on May 21 and was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital on May 23.
She tested positive for CA-MRSA. She is in serious condition.
She arrived in Hong Kong for work from the Philippines on May 20. Her home contacts have no symptoms.
MRSA is a type of Staphylococcus aureus that is resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. The centre says indiscriminate use of antibiotics may contribute to drug-resistance.
