Baby ill with influenza A
May 25, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of severe paediatric influenza A infection affecting an 11-month-old girl.
The baby, with good past health, came down with a fever and cough on May 17. Her condition deteriorated on May 23 and she was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit the next day.
She is now in critical condition, with a clinical diagnosis of pneumonia, septic shock and respiratory failure. She tested positive for influenza A.
She has no recent travel history, and her home contacts have no flu symptoms.
