16 beaches rated 'good'
May 24, 2013
Water quality at 16 beaches has been rated 'good' for this weekend, and 'fair' at 21, the Environmental Protection Department announced today.
Compared with last week, Discovery Bay was upgraded from fair to good, while Trio Beach was downgraded from good to fair.
The changes are generally within the normal range of fluctuation of the beaches' bacteriological water quality.
The department warned that many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest during and after periods of heavy rain.
People should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.
