Woman ill with drug-resistant infection
May 23, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of invasive community-associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus involving a 90-year-old woman.
She fell ill on May 3 and was admitted to hospital on May 7.
She tested positive for CA-MRSA. She is stable.
She has no recent travel history, and her home contact is normal.
The centre called on the public to use antibiotics only with professional advice, according to prescribed frequency and dosage.
Indiscriminate use of antibiotics can contribute to drug-resistance, it said.
