Baby treated for Hib infection
May 21, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection has received a report of an invasive Haemophilus influenzae type B infection case involving a five-month-old baby girl.
She is currently in stable condition and her home contacts are asymptomatic.
The girl showed flu-like symptoms on May 18 and was admitted to hospital the following day. She was diagnosed to have septicaemia and her blood culture grew Haemophilus influenzae serotype B.
The centre urged the public to maintain good environmental and personal hygiene to prevent infection.
