The Centre for Health Protection has identified a confirmed case of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in a 64-year-old man with chronic illness.
He was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on August 17 with shortness of breath and chest pain.
He was transferred to Tung Wah Eastern Hospital for rehabilitation on September 7. His condition is stable.
He tested positive for NDM-1 Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.
The centre's investigation revealed he had stayed in the same ward in Eastern Hospital where another man with NDM-1 was hospitalised. Investigation is underway to find out whether there is a link between the two cases.
This is the 13th detected case of NDM-1 in Hong Kong.
