Typhoid vaccine recalled

September 14, 2012
The Department of Health today instructed licensed drug wholesaler, Sanofi-Aventis Hong Kong, to recall typhoid vaccine Typhim VI from the market because of a quality issue.

Sanofi informed the department today that according to the French manufacturer, several out-of-specification test results regarding the antigen content were reported for Typhim VI, which might affect the efficacy of the vaccine.

The vaccine had been supplied to the department’s clinics, private doctors, private hospitals and pharmacies, and exported to Macau.

The department has asked Sanofi to provide a detailed investigation report on the cause of the incident.

Typhim VI can only be sold on prescription and under the supervision of pharmacists at registered dispensaries.

Call 9316 7212 for enquiries. Anyone who has been given the vaccine should consult their doctor.
