Baby treated for severe enterovirus
July 12, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of severe paediatric enterovirus in a three-month-old baby.
The boy, who lives on the Mainland, fell ill on July 7. He was brought to Hong Kong for treatment on July 8 and was admitted to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital the same day.
The clinical diagnosis was meningitis due to enterovirus infection. His condition is stable.
He tested positive for enterovirus and his home contacts are asymptomatic.
The centre urges people to remain vigilant against enterovirus as the infection is transmitted by direct contact with nose and throat discharges.
