Cambodia disease outbreak monitored

July 05, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection is monitoring the outbreak of an unknown disease with severe respiratory and neurological symptoms in Cambodia, affecting 62 children since April.

All but one has died so far, the World Health Organisation says.

They suffered a high fever followed by respiratory and neurological symptoms, with rapid deterioration of respiratory functions.

The majority came from southern Cambodia, and so far no apparent clustering of cases has been detected.

The WHO and Cambodian authorities are investigating.
