Birth certificate scheme to start

Birth certificate scheme to start

September 22, 2011

The Department of Health will launch the Confirmation Certificate on Delivery Booking tomorrow, allowing Mainland pregnant women to have babies in Hong Kong private hospitals.

The hospitals must confirm the booking and issue the certificate in accordance with the agreed number of deliveries.

They must submit statistics on obstetric bookings and deliveries to the department for better health service monitoring and to facilitate verification by Immigration Department officers at control points.
The certificate is made of special paper with the HKSAR emblem watermark and a unique certificate number to hinder counterfeiting.

The Government will later form a central registry to monitor obstetric service data via an electronic platform.
