Private-sector work up 0.8%

Total private-sector employment rose 0.8% year-on-year in December. Vacancies decreased 6%.

 

The Census & Statistics Department said today employment increases were recorded in the industries of construction sites (10.2%), human health services (4.2%), professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services) (2.9%), and education (2.3%).

 

Employment decreased in manufacturing (-4.1%), arts, entertainment, recreation and other services (-3.1%), wholesale (-1.2%), and accommodation services (covering hotels, guesthouses, boarding houses and other establishments providing short term accommodation) (-1.1%).

 

Of the 67,140 private-sector vacancies, 11,810 were in the food and beverage services, 7,370 in retail services, 6,330 in the professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services), 5,990 in import and export trade, and 970 in the financing and insurance sector.
