The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.4% in the July to September quarter, unchanged from the June to August period, the Census & Statistics Department said today.
The underemployment rate remained at 1.4%.
Non-seasonally adjusted increases in the unemployment rate were mainly seen in warehousing and support activities, while a decrease was seen in the wholesale sector.
Total employment decreased by 3,400 to 3,813,400 during the period, and the labour force decreased by 4,000 to 3,954,000.
There were 140,600 unemployed people and 55,300 underemployed people.
Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said the labour market has stayed resilient so far this year. However, the near-term employment outlook remains overshadowed by the unsteady external environment and the moderate growth of the local economy.
The Government will closely monitor its developments, he added.
