Urban focus:  Financial Secretary John Tsang meets Deputy Mayor of New York for Housing & Economic Development Alicia Glen.

Financial Secretary John Tsang has spent the last leg of his US trip in New York promoting Hong Kong to the local business sector.

Mr Tsang met with 50 members of the Chinese community at a lunch hosted by New York City Council Member Peter Koo on October 9, and addressed an America China Public Affairs Institute luncheon the next day to highlight the unique role of Hong Kong in helping China and Asia to fully realise their potential.

At a breakfast discussion on October 11 organised by the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, Mr Tsang introduced the advantages of Hong Kong’s business environment, including the free and open market, the rule of law, and its strategic location at the heart of the region.

He then met with Deputy Mayor of New York for Housing & Economic Development Alicia Glen, and had a meeting with Executive Vice President and Head of the Markets Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Simon Potter.

Mr Tsang also called on Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nation Liu Jieyi and Chinese Consul-General in New York Zhang Qiyue.

At a reception hosted by the China Institute, he spoke about Hong Kong’s role in connecting the Mainland and the world, noting the inclusion of the renminbi in the International Monetary Fund’s Special Drawing Right currency basket will create huge opportunities for Hong Kong.

Mr Tsang will address a breakfast meeting today organised by Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council before flying to Lima to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Finance Ministers’ Meeting.
