Private-sector work up 0.6%

Total private-sector employment rose 0.6% year-on year in June. Vacancies decreased 13%.

 

The Census & Statistics Department said today total employment increases were recorded in the industries of construction sites (14.4%), human health services (4.4%), residential care and social work services (3.7%), education (2.2%), and professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services) (1.6%).

 

Employment decreased in manufacturing (-3.5%), arts, entertainment, recreation and other services (-2.6%), accommodation services (covering hotels, guesthouses, boarding houses and other establishments providing short term accommodation) (-2.5%), and retail trade (-1.4%).

 

Of the 68,200 private-sector vacancies, 11,300 were in the food and beverage services, 7,230 in the professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services), 7,100 in retail services, 5,820 in import and export trade, and 5,230 in the financing and insurance sector.
