Belt-Road commissioner appointed

July 29, 2016

Yvonne Choi has been appointed the Commissioner for Belt & Road from August 1.

The term is until June 30.

Chief Executive CY Leung proposed in his Policy Address this year to set up a Belt & Road steering committee to formulate strategies and policies for Hong Kong's participation in the initiative. The Belt & Road Office will also be established.

Miss Choi will help the Chief Executive make good use of the new development opportunities for Hong Kong under the initiative through the steering committee and the office.

She will provide recommendations and advice to the Chief Executive and the steering committee in formulating and implementing Belt & Road strategies.

Mr Leung said: "Miss Choi has a wealth of work experience in economic and trade affairs and had served the Government for more than 30 years in many key positions. I have full confidence that Miss Choi can help me formulate strategies and policies which can facilitate Hong Kong's participation in the Belt & Road, and achieve the most for Hong Kong from this historic opportunity."

Miss Choi will not be remunerated for taking up the post and will report directly to the Chief Executive.
