Financial Secretary John Tsang today welcomed the Ministry of Finance's announcement of its plan to further issue sovereign bonds totalling RMB28 billion in Hong Kong this year.
The first batch of RMB14 billion will be issued to institutional investors on June 29, while the remainder will be issued in the second half of the year.
Mr Tsang said: "The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government welcomes the issue of RMB sovereign bonds by the Ministry of Finance in Hong Kong for the eighth consecutive year.
"Same as the past three years, the RMB sovereign bonds will be issued twice this year. This demonstrates clearly the Central Government's support in strengthening Hong Kong's status as the global offshore RMB business hub and further facilitates the development of the RMB bond market in Hong Kong."
