Views invited on trade deals

May 06, 2016

The Government is inviting interested parties to send in their views on areas to be covered in two Free Trade Agreements with Georgia and the Maldives.

Hong Kong will soon start Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the two countries.

Last year Hong Kong's bilateral merchandise trade with Georgia and the Maldives amounted to $285 million and $276 million.

The key elements to be covered by the two agreements include: elimination or reduction of tariffs; liberalisation of non-tariff barriers; rules of origin; customs facilitation procedures; liberalisation, promotion and protection of investment; liberalisation of trade in services; legal and institutional arrangements; and, the dispute settlement mechanism.

A consultation document has been uploaded to the Trade & Industry Department website. Views can be submitted by email by June 6.
