Gregory So welcomes copyright talks

February 04, 2016

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So says the Government welcomes discussion on the Copyright (Amendment) Bill if there is no pre-condition.

Speaking to reporters today Mr So said legislator Chan Kam-lam is arranging a meeting between the Government, lawmakers, Internet users and copyright owners.

He said the Government will facilitate the meeting, reiterating it will not withdraw the bill.

Mr So expressed regret that another Legislative Council meeting was today adjourned due to lack of quorum, and thanked pro-establishment legislators for doing their duty.

He noted that some pan-democratic legislators appeared joyful after the meeting adjourned, and questioned whether this was the appropriate attitude for lawmakers to have.

Mr So said updating the copyright law is beneficial to the economy and lawmakers intentionally causing the meeting to adjourn are in conflict with Hong Kong’s overall interest.
