The Monetary Authority and Association of Banks today launched a publicity campaign to raise awareness of the e-Cheque service, which will be rolled out in phases from December 7.
The service will turn the cheque writing and deposit processes completely online.
Like the paper version, the e-Cheque is legally protected by the Bills of Exchange Ordinance and does not require the payee to disclose information such as bank account numbers to the payer.
Advantages of the service include doing away with the need for physical delivery and presentment, stringent security features, high level of system automation, and environmental-friendliness.
A series of publicity materials including TV and radio announcements, posters and electronic brochures are available to the public.
During the initial stage, nine banks will offer e-Cheque issuance services to their customers. They are Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, Chiyu Bank, Fubon Bank, Hang Seng Bank, Nanyang Commercial Bank, Bank of East Asia, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and Wing Lung Bank.
