Water bills, rates payable online

September 01, 2015

The Water Supplies and Rating & Valuation departments have joined the Electronic Bill Presentment & Payment platform, enabling people to receive, view, manage and schedule payments for water charges and rates via their Internet banking accounts, the Monetary Authority announced today.

The authority's Deputy Chief Executive Peter Pang said the two departments are among the largest public-sector bill-issuers and account for around 70% of total bill payments received by the Government, taking the lead in its efforts to implement the e-bill system.

Nineteen banks operating more than nine million Internet banking accounts are providing the e-bill service to customers through the Internet banking system, while 140 merchants and charity organisations have joined the platform to provide one-stop bill payment services.

The Government, the authority and the Association of Banks have jointly developed educational materials such as television and radio announcements, posters and electronic brochures to help people better understand the service.

More channels for providing cross-boundary e-billing and e-payment services through the platform will also be explored.
