Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has attended a luncheon with the Mexican business community hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Mexico.

Speaking at the luncheon, he promoted Hong Kong as an excellent base for Mexican companies to do business, adding that the city offers them the right financial, legal and cultural environment to tap into Asia and Mainland markets.

He said the Mainland's Belt & Road initiatives offer investment and business opportunities in Hong Kong for Mexican companies, and encouraged them to tap Hong Kong’s advantage as an investment conduit and seize the opportunities available in the markets of the Belt & Road countries.

Mr So also met with Mexico's Secretary for Foreign Affairs José Meade to discuss two-way economic and trade prospects, Hong Kong's role as a super-connector between Mexico and Asia, and the Belt & Road initiatives.

He also spoke at a seminar hosted by National Institute of the Entrepreneur President Enrique Jacob Rocha, highlighting Hong Kong's support for start-ups.

In the afternoon, Mr So met with the Mexican Ministry of Tourism's Under Secretary for Regulation & Quality Francisco Maass Peña and Mexican tourism board representatives.

He also met with National Chamber of Electronics Industry, Telecommunications & Information Technologies Chairman Victor Gutiérrez Martínez to discuss potential collaboration in these areas.
