Gregory So attends RISE

July 31, 2015

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So attended the RISE conference today and joined a VIP tour to meet with start-up entrepreneurs.

RISE, the biggest start-up tech conference in Asia, provides a place for start-ups in Hong Kong and overseas to congregate and demonstrate their strengths.

During the tour, Mr So spoke with entrepreneurs on the challenges and opportunities they have encountered on the start-up scene.

He said the Government is very keen to transform the city into a leading global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship where start-ups can use Hong Kong as a global launchpad.

"We have experienced phenomenal growth in our start-up ecosystem. In the last 36 months, co-working locations, incubation and accelerator programmes have increased from three to over 40, and they are increasingly focused on specific sectors to differentiate their service offerings and uniqueness," he said.

Mr So also visited the booth jointly sponsored by InvestHK, the Science & Technology Parks Corporation and Cyberport. The booth showcases Hong Kong's start-up ecosystem and the latest developments in various technology clusters.

The two-day conference is being held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre. It has attracted over 5,000 participants, with over half of them from overseas.
