Thai ties:  Thailand Board of Investment Deputy Secretary General Ajarin Pattanapanchai and Director-General of Investment Promotion Simon Galpin sign the co-operation deal.

Invest Hong Kong and the Thailand Board of Investment today signed a memorandum of understanding pledging mutual co-operation on investment promotion exchanges and best practices.

The MOU was signed by Director-General of Investment Promotion Simon Galpin and Thailand Board of Investment Deputy Secretary General Ajarin Pattanapanchai. Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula were also present.

"Thai companies can make use of Hong Kong to tap into the vast Mainland market. Hong Kong companies can make use of Thailand to capture opportunities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region. The signing of the MOU today will strengthen the synergy between us," Mr So said.

Mr Pridiyathorn said Hong Kong is a global and regional business centre with business people and companies from all over the world investing in the city. Thailand likewise can be regarded as ASEAN's centre, a true regional trading and investment hub in Southeast Asia.

"The signing of the MOU will induce and promote increasing investment co-operation between Hong Kong and Thailand," he added.

The MOU provides a framework to enhance the close relationship of Hong Kong and Thailand in promoting both inward and outward investment.

According to the MOU, both sides will exchange information on the investment environment and investment opportunities. It will promote investment between the two places and the sharing of experience in attracting foreign investment as well as best practices.

The two sides will also encourage interested companies to set up or expand businesses in the other jurisdiction.
