Overall consumer prices rose 3% year on year in May, up from April's 2.8% increase, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.
Netting out the effects of all Government one-off relief measures, the underlying inflation rate was 2.6% compared to 2.4% in April.
Year-on-year increases were recorded for housing, electricity, gas and water, meals bought away from home, food, miscellaneous services and miscellaneous goods.
Year-on-year decreases were recorded for durable goods, clothing and footwear.
The department noted that underlying consumer price inflation remained moderate in May.
Looking ahead, given the mild imported inflation and the local economy's modest growth pace, the upside risks to inflation should be limited in the near term, it added.
