The value of total receipts of the restaurants sector in the first quarter, provisionally estimated at $26.1 billion, rose 3.7% year on year, the Census & Statistics Department says.
The provisional value of total purchases by restaurants grew 1% to $8.7 billion.
After netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, the volume of total restaurant receipts dropped 0.8% year-on-year.
Analysed by type of restaurant, total receipts of Chinese restaurants increased 1.9% in value but decreased 2.7% in volume. Total receipts of non-Chinese restaurants rose 5.6% in value and 1.3% in volume, while total receipts of fast food shops grew 4.7% in value and 0.5% in volume.
Total receipts of miscellaneous eating and drinking places increased 5.1% in value and 0.2% in volume. Total receipts for bars rose 3.6% in value but dropped 0.5% in volume.
On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, the volume of total restaurant receipts increased 3.1% in the first quarter of 2015 compared with the preceding quarter.
