Tourism promotion to start soon

April 13, 2015

The Hong Kong Tourism Board will make use of $80 million in additional funding to promote Hong Kong's image as a hospitable city starting from the end of April through August, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So says.

Speaking to the media today, Mr So said the first round of promotions will run from the end of this month to the end of May. The Quality Tourism Services Association will liaise with the local business sector, retail industry, attractions and shopping centres to offer concessions for visitors. In the second round, a lucky draw will be offered. The Tourism Board is studying the plans with retailers.

Regarding the newly announced one-trip-per-week policy for individual visit endorsements for Shenzhen residents, Mr So said that it will be effective in dealing with Mainland residents who engage in parallel trading activities.

He does not think the policy will affect the proposal to develop a shopping centre at the boundary area, as it can increase Hong Kong's capacity to receive tourists, he added.
