Easy learning:  The YWCA's Chinese character mobile app for dyslexic children received a gold award.

The Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme today recognised 199 accessible websites and 45 mobile applications for achieving its prescribed accessibility requirements - almost 50% more awardees than there were in the last round.

The Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association received a Gold Award for its mobile application for dyslexic children.

The application combined story-telling and game functions to help children remember the different parts that make up a Chinese word.

The MTR Corporation Limited received the Most Favourite Mobile Apps Award. The application features enhanced colour contrast, larger function keys and audio descriptions of content to help the visually-impaired access train information.

Officiating at the ceremony, Permanent Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Susie Ho said the number of enterprises and organisations joining the scheme has increased consistently over the past three years, demonstrating wider awareness and adoption of web accessibility in the community.

The recognition scheme is co-organised by the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer. The office provided free assessment and advisory services to participating organisations to help them understand and meet the accessibility requirements.
