Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has begun a visit to Japan to promote Hong Kong as a safe and hospitable tourist destination.
Addressing a luncheon organised by the Tourism Board in Tokyo today, Mr So said that many Japanese holidaymakers and business travellers make Hong Kong their first choice in planning their trips.
The recent launch of new low-cost carrier flights has further increased the passenger flow between Japanese cities and Hong Kong, he said.
Mr So added that more would be done to enhance the Hong Kong-Japan partnership in tourism and that the Tourism Board would stage exciting programmes this year to enhance visitors' experience.
Before leaving Tokyo tomorrow, Mr So will pay a courtesy call on Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua and meet with the country's State Minister of Economy, Trade & Industry Yosuke Takagi.
The commerce chief will then depart for Osaka where he will visit Knowledge Capital and meet with Hong Kong people in Kansai.
