Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Professor KC Chan began a week-long visit to Europe yesterday to promote Hong Kong as the world's premium offshore renminbi centre.

His first stop was Paris where he met with Authority of Financial Markets Board Chairman Gerard Rameix and briefed officials on the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, as well as on Hong Kong's unique role in the internationalisation of the RMB.

Prof Chan also had in-depth talks on a wide range of financial issues with European Securities & Market Authority Chairman Steven Maijoor and Bank of France General Council Governor Christian Noyer.

To conclude the first day of his visit he attended an evening gathering of the Hong Kong community and updated them on the city's latest developments.

Before leaving Paris for Brussels, Prof Chan is scheduled to give a keynote speech on RMB business and the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect at a seminar.
