KC Chan to visit Europe

Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan will leave for Paris on Monday to start a week-long visit to Europe to boost ties and promote Hong Kong as the world's premium offshore renminbi centre.

 

Prof Chan will meet with government officials and financial regulators in Paris, Brussels and London, to brief them on the opportunities brought about by the renminbi's internationalisation and the potential offered by the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.

 

Prof Chan will meet with Autorité des Marchés Financiers Board Chairman Gérard Rameix, European Securities & Market Authority Chairman Steven Maijoor, General Council of Banque de France Governor Christian Noyer, European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services & Capital Markets Union Jonathan Hill, Economic Secretary to HM Treasury Andrea Leadsom, European Banking Authority Chairperson Andrea Enria, Lord Mayor of London Alan Yarrow and Bank of England Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe.

 

He will also talk to prominent figures in financial and banking bodies, including the European Fund & Asset Management Association, the London Stock Exchange and TheCityUK.

 

Prof Chan will call on the Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Mission to the European Union Zhang Lirong in Brussels. He will also give keynote speeches on renminbi business and the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect at seminars in Paris and Brussels, and will have roundtable exchanges with London's leading financial and banking practitioners.

 

He will also meet key local business leaders and members of the Hong Kong community.

 

Prof Chan is due back in Hong Kong on December 6.
