The Census & Statistics Department says port transhipment cargo movements posted an average annual growth rate of 2.3% between 2008 and 2013, taking up 56.8% of port cargo throughput in 2013.
The September issue of the department's Monthly Digest of Statistics features an analysis of port transhipment cargo figures during the 2008 to 2013 period.
Cargo movements between Hong Kong and the Mainland accounted for 39% - the largest share of the city's transhipments. About 67.5% of Mainland-Hong Kong port transhipment cargo movements were between the SAR and the Pearl River Delta region.
