Scientific encounter:  Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So and Vice-Minister of Science & Technology Cao Jianlin co-host the science co-operation meeting in Qingdao.

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So and Vice-Minister of Science & Technology Cao Jianlin co-hosted the ninth Mainland-Hong Kong Science & Technology Co-operation Committee meeting in Qingdao today.

 

"Science and technology co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong is progressing well, particularly in promoting the establishment of Hong Kong Branches of Chinese National Engineering Research Centres, Partner State Key Laboratories in Hong Kong, and technology co-operation in the modern services industry with Hong Kong Science Park," Mr So said.

 

During the meeting, a schedule to setup Hong Kong branches of engineering research was endorsed, and a recommendation list is scheduled for next year.

 

The committee agreed to reassess 12 Partner State Key Laboratories in Hong Kong established before 2010 to ensure they maintain their leading positions in their research areas.

 

The committee also agreed to support science and technology parks collaboration between Hong Kong and the Mainland, including the establishment of a national integrated circuits base by Hong Kong Science Park.
