Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So visited Sha Tin District today to learn about the operation of a social enterprise and a community project.
Mr So first visited Good Family, a community supermarket formed by the Sha Tin Women's Association, which sells groceries and daily necessities. It provides working opportunities for women in the local community and enhances their competitiveness through on-the-job training.
He then proceeded to the Sha Tin Rural Committee to learn about a community care project it organised with the business sector, under which a market is set up twice a week to sell daily necessities at concessionary rates to the needy.
Many food manufacturers have donated or provided their products at bargain prices to support the project.
Mr So said it is encouraging to see the business community working with social enterprises and local organisations to help people, and he hopes similar projects can be launched to forge closer community ties.
Mr So lastly met with the chairman and members of the Sha Tin District Council.
