Overall consumer prices rose 4% year-on-year in July, up on June’s 3.6% increase, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.
Netting out the effects of all Government one-off relief measures, the underlying inflation rate was 3.3%, compared to 3.4% in June.
Year-on-year increases were recorded for electricity, gas and water, alcohol and tobacco, housing, meals bought away from home, food, transport, and clothing and footwear.
A year-on-year 3.1% decrease was recorded for durable goods.
The department said continued easing in inflationary pressure was due to the slowing of private rental increases and mild external price pressures.
But headline inflation grew back in July, mainly because some households had used up the Government’s one-off electricity subsidy.
It said the Government will monitor inflation, particularly its impact on lower-income households.
