HK-Macau meeting held

July 18, 2014

Financial Secretary John Tsang and Macau Secretary for Economy & Finance Tam Pak-yuen co-chaired the Seventh Hong Kong Macau Co-operation High Level Meeting in Macau today.

The two sides reviewed co-operation work and achievements made in the past year, and discussed work directions for the coming year.

Mr Tsang said Hong Kong and Macau already have close ties on various fronts, adding he looks forward to deepening co-operation.

On cross-boundary infrastructure, major works of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge are making steady progress. Both sides agreed to press ahead with construction and studies on cross-boundary transport policy in the coming year.

The two cities signed a development plan this year to boost cultural exchange and co-operation in the Greater Pearl River Delta region, focusing on building cultural software and hardware through information exchange and cultural collaboration.

Both sides will strengthen synergy by sharing cultural resources and will speed up the development of a mobile app providing cultural information in the region.

They will boost the notification mechanism on food safety, ensuring effective communication on food safety incidents.

On e-government, studies are underway on establishing an information security notification mechanism, which can improve both sides' information security surveillance and emergency response capabilities.

On tourism they agreed to promote multi-destination itineraries and enhance the overseas tourism trade's understanding of tourism products in both places.

They also discussed co-operation initiatives in medicine, environmental protection, and finance.
