Mainland visitor views urged

(June 04, 2014)

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has urged the business sector to express views on the Mainland visitor issue.

Mr So told reporters today the Government is concerned about the impact any adjustment to the number of Mainland visitors allowed to come to Hong Kong will have on the economy.

He said the recent 9.8% drop in total retail sales value deserves attention and the Government must balance the different interests of different sectors of the community.

"Particularly, we encourage the business sector to express their opinion as to the way forward; also we need to balance any impact this may have on the normal livelihood of Hong Kong citizens."

He also said the Government welcomes different stakeholders to express their views, so it can relay them to the Central Government.
