50,000 join second annual IT Fest

April 20, 2014

About 50,000 people have participated in the two-week International IT Fest 2014 which ended today, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer says.

The IT Fest featured 38 events covering information and communications technology domains in which Hong Kong is fast developing, such as cloud computing, startups, information security and mobile technology.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Financial Secretary John Tsang said the scale of the second International IT Fest was larger than last year's. It highlighted the local information and communications technology industry's vibrant development and the business opportunities it offered.

Mr Tsang also visited the Information & Communications Technology Fair at Cyberport today. He toured the "Made in Hong Kong" exhibition to see various locally-developed innovative products which had won numerous international awards.

To support the local information and communications technology industry's development, the office held a competition to encourage the development of mobile applications using public-sector information datasets on the government's Data. One portal. The winning entries were displayed at the fair and the award presentation was held at today's closing ceremony.

A common brand for free Wi-Fi services in Hong Kong selected through online public voting was also unveiled at the closing ceremony.
