Visitor arrivals hit new high

Hong Kong saw a record 41.92 million visitor arrivals last year, up 16.4% on 2010. Total expenditure associated with inbound tourism is expected to exceed $253 billion, up 20.5%.
 
The Tourism Board announced today per capita spending is expected to rise for overnight visitors by 9% to $7,333 and same-day visitors by 4% to $1,920.
 
Among all markets, 28.1 million arrivals came from the Mainland, up 23.9%. Arrivals from North Asia grew 4.4% to 2.3 million and arrivals from South & Southeast Asia rose 7.1% to 3.75 million.
 
The Mainland registered the most prominent growth in overnight arrivals at 16.5%, while Taiwan also recorded a 7.5% increase.
 
Overnight visitor arrivals grew 11.1% year-on-year to 22.32 million or 53.2% of total visitor arrivals to Hong Kong.
