December brighter than usual

January 03, 2018

Hong Kong enjoyed a sunnier than usual December, a stark contrast to November's gloomy weather.

The Hong Kong Observatory said the city saw 209.6 hours of bright sunshine in December, 37.4 hours more than the normal figure.

There were more than two hours of sunshine each day of the month except for on three days, but it was a bit chillier with a mean temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees lower than usual.

Only traces of rainfall were recorded for the month, making it one of the 10 Decembers with trace amounts of rain since records began in 1884.

The accumulated rainfall for 2017 was 2,572.1mm, 7% above normal.
