3 sites to join country parks

July 07, 2017

The incorporation of three enclaves into their surrounding country parks was gazetted today.

The enclaves at Fan Kei Tok and Sai Lau Kong will be incorporated into Plover Cove Country Park, and the one near Nam Shan into Lantau South Country Park, with the three sites occupying 12.4 hectares in total.

The Fan Kei Tok enclave, north of Wu Kau Tang, is extensively covered by unspoiled woodland. A section of the Wu Kau Tan Country Trail traverses it.

The Sai Lau Kong site is on a coastal headland connecting the neighbouring country park and marine park.

Situated near two popular hiking trails, the enclave near Nam Shan comprises woodland, agricultural land and some village houses.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department said the enclaves will be regulated by the Country Parks & Special Areas Regulations after their inclusion into the parks.

The move will help conserve the diverse habitats and scenic landscapes of the enclaves, and provide additional land for public recreation, the department added.

The designation order under the Country Parks Ordinance will be tabled at the Legislative Council on July 12.

It is due to take effect on December 1.
