June hotter, rainier

July 04, 2017

Last month was warmer and wetter than usual, seeing 44% more rain than normal, the Hong Kong Observatory said today.

The monthly mean temperature was 28.8 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degrees higher than normal.

Accumulated rainfall recorded in the first half of the year was 1,189.8mm, 8% above normal.

A tropical storm, named Merbok, moved across the northern part of the South China Sea on June 12 and intensified further into a severe tropical storm that night, necessitating the issuance of the first No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal in June since 2012.
