The Environmental Protection Department recorded 51 convictions for pollution offences in October.

Five each were for air pollution and noise, one each for water pollution, environmental impact assessment and hazardous chemicals control, and 38 for waste disposal.

The heaviest penalty handed down in the month was a $50,000 fine against a company which failed to use powered mechanical equipment in accordance with permit conditions.
