Green campus:  Under Secretary for the Environment Christine Loh presents prizes at the 14th Hong Kong Green School Award presentation ceremony.

The green efforts of 68 schools were recognised by the Environmental Campaign Committee today.

Speaking at the 14th Hong Kong Green School Award presentation ceremony, Under Secretary for the Environment Christine Loh encouraged the schools to help students develop an environment-friendly attitude and promote green practices.

Fifty-eight schools received the Green School Award for environmental protection, while 10 schools won the Waste Less School Award for cutting waste on campus.

The primary and secondary schools were assessed in four criteria, namely environmental policy and campus environment, environmental management measures, environmental education planning and implementation, and environmental education effectiveness.

Schools meeting the benchmark scores were given gold, silver or bronze awards.

Schools receiving the Hong Kong Green School title will compete for the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence.

For preschools, assessment was based on environmental infrastructure, environmental management, environmental education and parent participation in environmental activities.

Launched in 2000 the award scheme has attracted the participation of 824 schools, encouraging them to formulate a school environmental policy and enhance environmental awareness.
