The Environment Bureau today launched an international competition to find innovative and practical ideas for reusing batteries from retired electric vehicles.
The bureau said these batteries still have up to 80% of their electricity storage capacity, offering immense potential for second-life applications.
The number of electric vehicles in Hong Kong has grown to over 5,800, an almost 60-fold increase in less than six years.
The registration deadline for the competition is October 31, and participants can submit entries individually or in groups by January 31.
Entries will be assessed on their originality, viability, value and impact.
The finalists will be announced in May and a championship and award ceremony will be held in June.
Winners will get to visit to environmental facilities in Germany.
