Education programme to launch

August 26, 2016

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department will launch the second phase of the Take Your Litter Home public education programme next month.

It calls on country park visitors, particularly younger ones, to take their litter away with them.

About half of the 500 litter bins on country park trails will be removed by year's-end.

All family walks and nature trails which are shorter in distance and less difficult will become litter-bin free.

The number of litter bins along some country trails, long hiking trails and other trails will be reduced.

The department will offer activities for the public to learn about environmental protection through a Nature Ambassador Award Scheme.

Country park volunteers will convey the "Take Your Litter Home" message to visitors at major trailheads in country parks and patrol the trails and collect litter along the way to promote waste reduction.

Country park workers will continue to keep country parks clean while park wardens will step up patrols and enforcement.

The department launched the programme last September and it has been well received by the public, with overall cleanliness and hygiene at all trail sites being maintained while the amount of litter collected decreased.
