Measures to combat e-waste set

June 20, 2016

Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says the Government is taking various actions to handle the alleged illegal importation of hazardous electronic waste to Hong Kong.

The importation of hazardous electronic waste from overseas was reported by the media last week.

Mr Wong told reporters today the Environmental Protection Department will ask the countries mentioned in the report to stop exporting such e-waste.

The department will also work with other agencies to intercept illegal shipments of hazardous e-waste into Hong Kong.

The Legislative Council has passed a bill to expand control in the importing and exporting of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
