The Environmental Protection Department recorded 61 convictions for pollution offences in January.

Nine were for air pollution, 11 for noise and 40 for waste disposal. One offence was under the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance.

The heaviest fine handed down in the month was $40,000 assessed against a company that failed to comply with a noise abatement notice and another that imported controlled waste without a permit.
